Civil pensions: supplementary provision.

Finance Committee has approved a supplementary

provision of $700,000 under Head 23, Pensions, Subhead 1, Civil pensions, to meet expenditure in excess of the $4,100,000 provided in the 1949/50 estimates.

2.

The excess has occurred as the result of adjustments of pensions due to revised salaries arising out of the Salaries Commission report, the impossibility of foreseeing all retirements in advance, and the difficulty in knowing if new pensioners will draw unreduced pensions or reduced pensions and gratuities.

Your approval is requested for this

supplementary provision in accordance with your despatch
